Pink & So Blue...

RACE FOR THE CURE!  April 26, 2008.

Breastcancer2

Miles and miles of people.  See all that pink.  It was so inspiring!

Breastcancerwalk

That's me w/ the big cheesy grin waving!  I really was THAT happy to be there.  All the people in the picture are walking for our friend, Jo Ann.

Even Miss Meg showed up w/ her messy bun 'do!

Breastcancerwalk3

That's me w/ the white cap and hair down to my waist.  Kinda curly and brown (3rd from the far right).  Can't believe how long it is now.  I kept watching as brave people in the middle of treatment walked by (or were pushed by in their wheelchair) with no hair.   Or hair that was just coming back after chemo or radiation.  More than one person made a comment to me about my hair.  I found it very touching.  It makes me thankful even when it takes me fifteen minutes to comb it out after a shower.  It truly is the little things we take for granted.  I want to weep when I think about it now.  Women are so courageous.

Here we all are ALMOST @ the finish line!

If you look real close you can see the 7:19 timer.  I thought that's how fast I walked!  Turns out the timer was for the real athletes doing the 5K Run!  Mr. Fix It (aka my loving husband) and our handsome son participated in the run for they are real athletes.  Anyone who gets up to run @ 5:30am in the moring (esp. on a regular basis is an athlete in my opinion).  Mr. Fix It had a fab run and came in 12th in his age group.  Z-Man was not on his best game, but he still came in 12th.  Must be nice.  I was happy I walked without injury!P1040298 P1040296

Uncle Greg and Miss Meg at breakfast.  Everyone got ears...  Only they wore them!

It was a beautiful day.  And my privilege to participate.  May we find a cure for breast cancer...  Your continued prayers for J woulld be deeply appreciated.

This past Saturday was National Scrapbooking Day.  I missed out on the festivities because I was out of town @ the Canton, TX Flea Market w/ Mr. Fix It.  And then my son, the runner, and I took a mini road trip.  I have sooo much to post, but I'll end with this today.

The black and white house belonged to my maternal grandparents.  They bought it in 1968.  GaGa and Grandaddy.  While home for Christmas in Boulder we took a little driving tour down memory lane.  We stopped by this tiny house where I spent a great many days.  I always felt very loved and protected here.  In it's heyday you would find tulips and marigolds and peonies in full bloom.  You'd find my grandmother stationed in a lawn chair on the front porch just resting after pulling weeds or sweeping the front "stoop" as she called it.  She swept a thousand times a day.  My Grandfather was usually watering something.  He and his garden hose were firmly acquainted.  I often thought he escaped my Grandmother this way!  Sadly, they both passed away between 92 and 96.  My sister lived here for awhile.  After she graduated from college the house was sold and it went through many, many owners.  The next worse than the first...  And the little tiny black and white house looked sadder and sadder.  And this past 2007 it had been foreclosed on.  The snow covered much of the neglected ugliness.  And seeing the house in this melancholy shape just made me feel SO BLUE...

Pink and so blue...

Congratulations on completing the Race for the Cure.
Looks like you all had fun.
It is sad when we return to places from our childhood that no longer look as we remember them .Lucky we have such great memories

You are such a blessing . I have participated in this, I have contributed to breast cancer research and little did I know (although somehow on some level it was never a surprise), I was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago this past Sunday. I give thanks every day for each day, grateful that I am here and still as supportive of the cause as ever. My prayers to your JoAnne that she continues to be victorious and to you and your family for your continued support.

Cami I just spent an hour reading your blog - I love, love, love it! I reread your toy post (I must have only looked at pictures when I posted before because my server was on and off) and was so moved by it - the lump in my throat is finally abating! Your friend JoAnn is in my prayers and bless you for rallying your whole family to "Race For The Cure"! I'll be a regular now. Big, big HUGGGS, Nancy

Kudos to you and family for going for such a needy cause. I will pray for you friend, as I have many friends that need prayers, too.

Going by my grandmother's old house really gives me the blues. The people who bought it invited me to come see the changes they made. They are really nice people, but I didn't want to go. I finally gave in, and went inside. I thought I was going to suffocate, and I can't remember a thing I saw. I just need to get out of the house. I know it sounds weird, but I don't think my grandmother's spirit was in the house. It just didn't seem right for other people to be there.

I love your blog Cami! My grandparents house was so special to me. My dad sold it after they died. I was sad I didn't get to see the house before he sold it. My mom sold our childhood home 4 years ago too. So sad!! I guess we'll always have the memories though.

What a wonderful thing to do! I am so glad you were able to find a copy of the book Floral House. I think you're going to love it!

xx Nancy

Good for you by participating in the race and making it without injury :) I was the Relay For Life Captain in my town for 3 years but I have retired. It is wonderful to get involved and give back! I am glad you did.
Thank you for visiting me. Have a wondeful week.

Whoo-who! Yay for you! My thoughts are with your friend, Joanne.....I did this walk in DC about 5 years ago and it was such an experience. Seeing Fathers, husbands, mothers, daughters, old and young, was so inspiring.
I love the collage of your grandparents home...but very sad indeed!

Congrats on the Race for the Cure! Great photos!! Have a great one!

blessings,

Hi Cami,
You won my Terrific Tuesday Giveaway! I just need your mailing address. Email me at sherryreneew@hotmail.com Thanks!

Hi Cami,
It's a small world! It is quite a coincidence isn't it. I moved out to Colorado with my younger brother in 1987. I stayed about 15yrs. My brother lives in Evergreen. I got married out there. My husband is a Denver native, east side, George Washington H.S. We moved back here (Michigan) almost 6 years ago. There will always be a place in my heart for Colorado! I was in the Central City dump, probably in about 1988 or '89. Long before the gambleing. It certainly has changed! Everywhere on the front range has really changed.
Ok...I better stop myself! It was nice to meet you. I hope your friend does well on her cancer journey. It's a real toughy to say the least. I'll stop back by to read your posts again later. I'm going out of town tomorrow and Have a lot to do. Thanks for the comment. Later,
Lisa B.
