Linda Woods: Journal Revolution: Rise Up and Create! Art Journals, Personal Manifestos and Other Artistic Insurrections
I love this book and Linda could be my best friend except I don't mind hugging!
Carter: For The Love of Old
I get this. I've always been drawn to all things old too. Most esp. people. (*****)
May Sarton: Journal of a Solitude
I'm in the midst of this book and it has been a pleasure. If you need time to calibrate this book will get to you. (****)
Anne Frank: The Diary of Anne Frank
My alltime FAV book in childhood. I have read and reread this book a million times I think...I lose myself in the beauty of Anne's brain. (*****)
Volleyball camp. Basketball camp. Pole vaulting camp. Bedroom redo. Just drew up the plans (well, Mr. Fix It and his awesome architect skills... he can EVEN draw in scale!) and got a quote for our new metal building (it's huuuuuuuuugeeee!). Doc appointments. eBay listing (not my favorite part). I don't know if I can keep this schedule up. I'm always in my vehicle. Coming or going. I pass myself on a regular basis! Plus keeping the troops fed and the fur/feather babies fed & medicated. Shewwwww... Pretty soon they'll have to just take me to the dump along w/ all that old yucky carpet!
On a happy note: after getting the newest copy of Romantic Country I couldn't sleep!!! So much inspiration.
Love that dresser! :SIGH: If you can't find this issue in your area you can find it in my eBay store: HEART-SHAPED ROCK COTTAGE. Just plug ROMANTIC COUNTRY into the search box. They've been selling like hotcakes as I gather they're not readily available everywhere.
This magazine made me want to repaint everything!!!
Estate sale find in the pit of the garage. $2 First coat!
Garage sale. $1. This think is huge! Not sure what I'm doing with it. After Meg & I pulled out nails for an hour I'll figure something out. Can't decide between white or cream.
A wonderful corner shelf being modeled by my track star who needs a haircut! Bless his heart! Tried bright yellow. Not so much. Tried pink and ran out of paint. So it's a nice combo. Didn't fit in any corner in my shabby rooms so I imagine this one will be headed to the store. It's about 2-3 feets in length. I'm thinking I need to do something about the two tone thing though.
Okay, Cami out!
(photo by meggie age: 10 years 10 days in low light conditions!)
Mr. Dexter Doolittle got a new fence on Father's Day!
Behold the fence! Needs paints, but it's gorgeous! Pickets done in one day by Mr. Fix It and his trusty sidekick, Mr. Fix It Jr. Such a team. Meg and I cut & drilled a few holes ourselves!
And another view. Most of the time there are horses grazing out in the back pasture. This is my view from the kitchen window.
Father's Day was celebrated on the back porch over a grilled steak dinner. I used 100 tealights from IKEA and created an outdoor fairyland. The lightning bugs were much more magical though. Hard to outdo God's little creations! We dined on top sirloin, red potatoes done on the grill girl scout style followed by cherry pie. Zach is our resident dessert chef. At 12 he does it better than any of us and seems to enjoy it more too. So Z created a cherry pie for his Dad. We then gatherered around THE FIRE PIT to roast marshmallows long after the sun went down. We all retired late knowing we had a full day in front of us. Volleyball camp has started for Sister Golden Hair and Project Hardwood Floors commenced @ 0800 hours. Report to follow.
Hope everyone had a fine, fine Father's Day. We surely did.
The posts are set. All 15 of them. In cement. Gave the post hole digger and Mr. Fix It a real work out.
The view out the back pasture. So serene. Look @ those skies.
Off to the North there's one thunderstorm about 150 miles from here near Wichita Falls. Gorgeous. My orange cats and I just walked the "back 40" trying to get a few pics before sunset. Of course, Ali & Minnie were too busy hunting and rubbing against my legs to pose for a pic.
Have a blessed Father's Day weekend. We have many surprises in store for Mr. Fix It!
It's that time of the week! Show and Tell Sunday. This weeks theme: Trash2Treasure!
Unfortunately, I'm pitiful about taking BEFORE pics so you'll have to settle for after!
This is my $1.00 stool from a garage sale. It was superdeduperty U-G-L-Y, unstable and looked like a 7th grade science lab stool circa 1967. I used black spray paint, white paint, some rub ons and I doodled a bit. Add pom-pom fringe to anything and you get magic. I swear by it!
BEHOLD:
I like to do chairs. It's "my thang". I needed a chair for the bathroom to hold towels. Oh, and to pile my clothes on. This particular chair is very lovely. Particularly when buried under "clothes mountain"!
Here's an AFTER picture for your amusement.
There is a chair under there. I swear.
I'm currently working on turning an old door into a headboard, revamping an old cupboard for the masterbedroom and refurbishing an old file cabinet I drug home yesterday for $10 (it's taller than I am and I'm near 6 foot in high heels!). Coming to a blog near you real soon!
For more junk to gems pay Sugar*Sugar a visit!
<as uttered by my loving husband, mr. fix it, for the one billionth time>
Funny thing is I always find a place. Always!
Welcome to Show 'N Tell Sunday: Organization...
In the last few days I've only been home to sleep so please forgive the bad lighting in these photographs. It was the best I could do. Is the end of the school year as busy as Christmastime??? I do believe so...
This is my favorite piece in my studio. The catch all. I didn't clean up. No time. This is AS IS!
A close up. Everything in my studio is black, cream, white. Real easy on the eye, but I couldn't bring myself to repaint this hotel organization piece.
I'm very visual. If it's not out for the world to see it doubtful I'll go looking for it.
I collect vintage pincushions. And I adore donkeys! This one is from Tractor Supply and was a Mother's Day gift from my 12 year old son.
My most beloved paints.
I have old shutters on either side of most of my windows. I like to stick stuff to them. Again, the visual thing. Stuff I've made, stuff people have sent me.
This where I keep "the stuff" and some more pincushions and a couple of things I've painted. I just noticed the Easter bunny. Ooops! Easter was way to early, but now I feel like "those people" that leave their stapled Christmas lights all year long!
The closet. I can close the door on this one.
Introducing Myrna Doyle: official studio mascot. She was feeling cheeky this morning thus the feather boa. Rescued her from a garage sale and yes, she knows she has horns... That's another post for another day. Cross-dressing deers. :sigh:
The light is better in the dining room. Some more Easter stuff! HA! I was in a yellow mood so here ya go.
Did I ever mention I have two kitchens??? Yes, I do. The one we've been working on for the past couple of months. Well, we have a mother-in-law suite and I did that side of the house in my favorite cottage-y colors. It's so romantic! This is above the cupboards.
A shot of the actual cupboard.
Love this whimsical shelf I drug back from a junk shop in Oklahoma. It's HUGE! About 2 1/2 feet across and the palest shade of pink.
Have to end in the living room with my favorite storage "container" of all. Thanks IKEA.
If you'd like to do a little blog hopping: Little Pink Studio!I have my eyes on the goal! The end result! I AM FOCUSED!
Get those panels done and get those babies in the mail!
I've had 6 out of 8 done for weeks and weeks.
And alas, today was the day. I finished! And they are in the enroute to Karla and Beth's house specifically!!!
My contribution:
Ali and I would like to wish you all a super comfy night tonight. It's storming here and being married to a meteorologist (yep, Mr. Fix It) means we're running solo tonight. And alas, my blondie is at sleepaway camp with the entire 4th grade for a few nights so it's just me, Z w/ his strep throat, Ali the Marmalade Wonder Boy and the rest of the zoo.
Again, have a super comfy night. And NO TORNADOS PLEASE!
An old kitchen cabinet: TRANSFORMED!
Welcome to the Poop Palace. Private kitty entrance on the right hand side!
The plastic pan is actually a 39 gallon tote from Target. It holds 54 lbs. (yep, 54 lbs!) of Tidy Cat Scoop for Multiple Cats. Each box of litter is 27 lbs of litter and costs about $10 each. We only have to change it once a month. We scoop daily. Sometimes twice. We being the kiddos!
No odor (at all) and easy clean up. I swear! And I have a zoo.
The top is on hinges for easy scoopability!
And can you beat the vintage bakelite handles?
Cat litter is not the most glamorous of topics, but seeing as everyone poops it seemed practical to post.
The kitchen cabinet is from a used furniture store. Mr. Fix It added hinges and cut out a door. The whole unit lives in the laundry room. It has currently been relocated so we can take the new kitchen tile all the way into a guest bathroom, food pantry, hallway and laundry room. It shall resume its regular position shortly.
THE KITCHEN IS ALMOST DONE!
